Figure Skating Toronto Learn to Figure Skate in Toronto Canada

You've worked hard on mastering a number of figure skating moves; now it's time to set a program to music.
Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: This task could take several hours, days, or weeks.
Here's How:

Select a piece of music that is about 1? to 2 minutes long.

Classical music is always acceptable, and movie themes can be a popular and trendy source for music. Something with a definite, identifiable crescendo or change is a good choice since there are natural places to insert jumps or other dramatic moves.

Select a place in the rink to start, and decide on a starting position.

Almost anything will work; putting your toe to your side, with one arm up, or just standing in a nice "T" with arms down, are good choices.

Decide on a starting move.

You might want to begin the routine with a pivot, bunny hop, or spiral.

Take advantage of the connecting moves.

Use moves such as three turns, mohawks, strokes, and crossovers to connect each element. Try a jump, followed by some footwork, then go into a spiral on a curve, transition into running threes, into another jump, followed by a spin, and finally some more footwork.

Use of space in the rink is artistically important.

Don't skate in the same area over and over, and don't do one spin followed by another spin--it's generally not aesthetically pleasing.

Make sure you know your music well.

Practice your routine enough times to know when in the music to anticipate when certain moves will happen, and memorize your routine, every beat, every step.

Finally, once the choreography is complete, end in a definite pose.

Tips:

Practice the program to music daily, and build up endurance to do it again and again. As you perfect it, you always have the option to add to it or change things around.
If you do get a chance to perform the program in public, make sure you know it really well, and if you make a mistake, just go on to the next move and keep a smile on your face. Figure Skating Toronto Learn to Skate Learn to Skate Toronto

Authorities charge US military member with trying to take explosives onto plane in Texas

MIDLAND, Texas - Authorities have charged a member of the U.S. military who was arrested after trying to go through a security checkpoint at a Texas airport with explosives in military-grade wrapping, the FBI said Sunday.

Trey Scott Atwater, 30, was stopped at security at the Midland International Airport about 9 a.m. Saturday. FBI spokesman Mike Martinez said Atwater is being held at the Midland County jail and has been charged with trying to bring explosives onto an airplane.

He will remain in custody at least until his arraignment Tuesday, given that the courts are closed Monday for the holiday, Martinez said.

Atwater and his wife and family had been visiting relatives in the area and were on their way back to his base in North Carolina, according to local media reports.

Public records searches list addresses for Atwater at Fort Bragg and indicate he continues to have relatives in Midland, though there was no answer at phone numbers given in both locations. He had a reservation on Flight 3283 operated by American Eagle, which had a scheduled departure of 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

It's unclear whether Atwater was in military uniform at the time he was detained, or how many explosives were in the bag.

City of Midland spokeswoman Tasa Watts said Saturday that she had no information on the suspect, but confirmed the explosives were in military-grade wrapping. She said the specific grade wouldn't be known until the explosives were tested.

The Transportation Security Administration issued a statement saying one of its officers spotted a suspicious item in a carry-on bag during X-ray screening. The agency said the checkpoint was closed for about an hour while officers investigated and removed the item.

Watts said Atwater was entering a terminal when he was stopped, and a sweep was done to clear that terminal before normal operations resumed.

Court records show Atwater pleaded guilty in February 2002 in North Carolina to misdemeanor possession of a container of wine, liquor or beer by an unauthorized person, and to drinking beer/wine while driving.

Motorola Droid 4 pops out once again for some pretty pictures

Motorola Droid 4

Pictures of the Motorola Droid 4 have been around for as long as late October, so we're really not surprised to see more of them popping up. And now Technobuffalo has quite the new crop -- or, rather, a new crop of pictures of a non-working dummy phone. Not a whole lot there we haven't seen 13 different ways already -- most recently on Best Buy's website. Now all we need is some sort of official announcement, perhaps.

11 killed as Cyclone Thane hits southeast India

A cyclone brought heavy rains and gale-force winds to India's southeastern coast, killing at least 11 people, uprooting trees and damaging homes.

The India Meteorological Department said Friday morning that Cyclone Thane was centered in the Indian Ocean, 22 miles (35 kilometers) southwest of the town of Pondicherry, also known as Puducherry. The weather office said it was likely the storm would weaken and move west.

Heavy rains and winds of speeds reaching 85 miles per hour (140 kilometers per hour) uprooted trees and damaged homes and resulted in 11 deaths, an official in the coastal town of Cuddalore said on condition of anonymity because he wasn't allowed to speak to reporters. The deaths were caused mostly by wall collapses and electrocution, he said.

The bad weather hit trains and flights in the region, Press Trust of India reported.

The weather office said that the seas were expected to be very rough along the coast of Pondicherry and its neighboring areas of southern Andhra Pradesh and the northern coast of Tamil Nadu. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out.
