(AP) ? First lady Michelle Obama played kid-sized doubles against Serena Williams, clocked a 55-mph serve and even did some hula-hooping in her first visit to the U.S. Open.

Obama spoke to a group of local youngsters Friday as part of her campaign against childhood obesity.

"I'm not really good or anything like that. That's the beauty of tennis," she said. "You don't have to be good to enjoy it. I love the game, and my skills are very questionable."

Obama then joined the kids in a tennis video game, table tennis and other activities at an indoor facility at Flushing Meadows designed to get young players excited about the sport.

Obama and a pint-sized partner played doubles against seven-time Grand Slam winner John McEnroe, who gave her some volley pointers. Williams, a 13-time major champ who advanced to the Open semifinals Thursday, rolled in after about 45 minutes and took over as Obama's doubles opponent.

"I've been trying to get to the U.S. Open my entire life," Obama said.

She later took in the men's quarterfinal matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Joined by former and current players Billie Jean King, James Blake and Katrina Adams, Obama recalled that she didn't get into tennis until after law school because there were few courts where she grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Obama praised the U.S. Tennis Association's efforts to build kid-sized courts around the country and recruit more youngsters to the game.

Now she hopes she and her daughters will still be playing when they're in their 90s.

"It's a sport you can do forever," Obama said.

Insert Coin: Teagueduino solderless electronic board

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with "Insert Coin" as the subject line.

We've seen the Arduino platform used to do some very, very cool things. You can pick up one of these incredibly versatile contraptions for well under 100 bucks, putting it within reach of the entire gamut of advanced hardware developers. But as simple as it may be to use for the technically inclined, there's still quite a bit of programming required, and you'll probably need to know your way around a soldering iron as well. The Teagueduino sets out to simplify the process, replacing intimidating code with simple drop-down menus, which you can adjust in realtime, giving you instant feedback as you make adjustments to your 'coding' handiwork. The second piece of the puzzle is the Teagueduino board itself, which includes snap-enabled inputs and outputs (yes, that means you can leave the finger-melting soldering iron to the pros).

The hardware/software duo first made an appearance this spring, but it just popped up on Kickstarter, which means the Teagueduino could be making its way to a DIY project near you in the not-so-distant future. Unfortunately it's not cheap -- you'll need to pledge $160 to get a fully assembled kit, while $260 adds extra I/O terminals. The Teagueduino is nearing the halfway point of its $22,000 funding goal with 27 days left to go, and if all goes according to plan, you should have your kit by November. Jump past the break for an overview with the designers.

Computer security support scales new standards with PCCare247

Computer security when applied to the world of PC's is better known as information security. Extensive in its orientation, its objective is protection of information and property from theft, corruption or any sort of natural calamity, while at the same time also ensuring the information remains productive and accessible to its intended users.

Understanding the need for cutting-edge security support:

At times, it is quite tough to explain to computer users as to why a cutting-edge security support is considered pivotal in the scheme of things. A class which comes to its senses only when it does end up suffering at the hands of hackers, attackers and crackers; all working forcefully towards gaining unauthorized access and stealing of data.

PCCare247 goes well beyond conventional norms:

For the not so seasoned computer user security support is often restricted to elimination of a virus trying to breach the security parameters or a spyware trying to gather sensitive information.

But then this is where an army of seasoned techies at a premier tech support organization beg to differ. For at the end of the day, the techies at PCCare247 believe security support is an all encompassing facet and it not only includes worms and Trojans but even phishing and pharming, macro and boot sector viruses and yes not to miss out the ever so malicious bots, rootkits and ransomware.
Leveraging the PCCare247 advantage:

High-end security support is one of those objectives which one can be best left to seasoned tech support professionals.

One of those cases in scenario wherein techies from a premier tech support provider such PCCare247 can be counted way above the rest. Possessing a great degree of technical acumen and expertise not only are the professionals from the premier tech support entity in sync with the latest security threats but ever so willing to recommend measures for reducing their potency in a big way.

Going all out and helping not only with the installation of anti-spyware programs but giving handy advice as far as the installation of state-of-the-art anti-virus software would be concerned. And if somehow that wouldn't be enough also giving out loud instructions on how one should go about towards expertly installing and configuring a firewall.? Yet, at the same time leaving no stone unturned towards educating PC users on the threats associated with the internet and the malicious codes and the scripts which remain deep seated in its underbelly. ?

How to Find the Perfect Women's Hair ... - Beauty, Health and Fitness

Many factors come into play when deciding on the perfect hairstyle. These factors include hair type, facial shape, and lifestyle. Just because a hairstyle looks good on others does not mean that it will look good on you. By keeping a few factors in mind, any woman can find a hairstyle that will complement every aspect of her life.

When looking for the perfect hairstyle, your facial shape should be the primary consideration. Oval shaped faces are typically one-and-a-half times as long as they are wide, and are considered to be the most forgiving facial shape of all. Oblong faces are longer than they are wide, and round faces are mostly even widthwise as well as lengthwise. Heart-shaped faces are like oval-shaped faces but with a sharper chin, and diamond-shaped faces have wider cheek measurements. Finally, triangle-shaped faces have wide jaws and narrow foreheads and chin measurements, and square faces are about as long as they are wide.

Women with long faces should stay away from styles that feature long hair, as it makes the face appear even longer. By contrast, long layers and waves are better suited for round faces. Curly styles are a great choice for women with square faces, whereas heart-shaped faces need styles that show off the eyes and cheekbones in order to deemphasize the pointed chin that is characteristic of this facial shape. Oval shaped faces can wear almost any style, as the well-balanced features are ideal.

With knowledge of styles that best suit your face shape, you should next consider your hair type. By implementing the ?ponytail test,? counting the number of times the tie wraps around your hair, you can determine your hair type. Three or more wraps is fine hair, two to three is medium, and one time is thick or coarse hair.

With your hair type and face shape identified, you should next consider your lifestyle. You not only want the style to fit your facial shape, but your demeanor & lifestyle as well. For example, if you are a woman on the go, you would not want to choose a hairstyle that demands a lot of attention. Busy businesswomen or women into health and fitness should not choose a style with color or lots of highlights that would need to be maintained. If you are an African-American with this lifestyle, natural styles such as afros or locks are suggested. These looks are easy to maintain, and do not take long to style. As another example, reserved women should not go for a hairstyle with lots of spikes or colors.

The bottom line is that knowing your face shape, hair type, and your personal style will allow you to find the hairstyle that is perfect for you. Searching magazines and finding hairstyles that fit your facial shape can be a way to get an idea of what you want. Opinions from family and friends can also help in the search for the perfect ?do.? Finally, you can consult with your hairstylist to get a true professional opinion. Good luck!

Biological agents for rheumatoid arthritis associated with increased ...

7 September 2011

Biological agents used to treat rheumatoid arthritis seem to be associated with an increased risk of skin cancer, indicates a systematic review of published research in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.

Inflammatory arthritis has been linked to an increased risk of some cancers, such as lymphoma and lung cancer, but a lower risk of others, such as bowel and breast cancers. But it has been unclear to what extent tumour necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors ? drugs which act on the immune system ? might affect risk.

TNF inhibitors include the monoclonal antibodies infliximab and adalimumab and the protein etanercept.

The researchers base their findings on 21 studies and eight conference abstracts, which met their strict inclusion criteria of reporting data on cancer associated with TNF inhibitors. In all, this provided information on more than 40,000 patients and almost 150,000 cumulative years of exposure to these drugs.

The studies were drawn from an extensive trawl of clinical research databases, and findings presented to the American College of Rheumatology, the European League against Rheumatism, and the British Society for Rheumatology between 1998 and 2010.

The pooled risk from seven studies for the development of any cancer showed that there was negligible or no increased risk, overall.

Two studies indicated that there was no evidence that patients taking TNF inhibitors over the long term were at increased risk of cancer either. And although patients who had had cancer before were more likely to be diagnosed with the disease again, this was not affected by the use of TNF inhibitors.

But four studies showed that patients treated with these drugs were 45% more likely to develop skin cancer other than melanoma, with two studies indicating that patients taking TNF inhibitors were 79% more likely to develop a melanoma than patients not taking these drugs.

?This systematic review and meta analysis provides reassurance to physicians and patients that the treatment of [rheumatoid arthritis] with TNF inhibitors does not increase the risk of malignancy, particularly lymphoma,? write the authors. ?However, it does appear to increase the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma,? they add.

5 Ways The Invention Of Pants Shaped The Modern World

Cracked.com:

What would you say is the single biggest source or symbol of your strength and power as an individual? The answer is easy: just look down.

We're talking, of course, about your pants. The world didn't make the transition from robes to pants as an arbitrary fashion statement -- it required decrees by rulers, massive social upheaval, and the liberation of oppressed classes.

Each of those events in history has served to reaffirm one thing: Pants equal power. Seriously.
