She really believes that everyone is her best friend. The thing that makes her most special to me is her uncanny ability to sense when I?m feeling upset or down. It?s like she knows immediately when my mood shifts, and she always comes over and sits by me when this happens. She?s always there when I need a shoulder to cry on (literally) or someone to vent to. She my best friend.?

Ashley wrote, ?My boyfriend and I rescued her last year after her owner passed away. I?ve wanted a pug ever since I could remember, and she?s absolutely the best in the world. My favorite thing is when she chins? she will walk up to you and rest her chin on your foot. She doesn?t cuddle well (she?d rather sit beside you and rest her chin on you) but she is so full of love, patience, and kindness. She is the best example of what we should be: kind, loving, forgiving, and calm. She helps me when I am upset, when I?m nervous, or just need a hug. And the best part of all: she?s snorts, all the time. She?s unique, like all of us.?

Crennel cracks door for Quinn? |? Locker out awhile

Brady QuinnAP

On Sunday, Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said that Matt Cassel is still the team?s starting quarterback.? On Monday, Crennel reiterated that position ? with a caveat.

Crennel said the Chiefs may give Brady Quinn some of the first-team reps in practice this week, as the team prepares to host the 3-1 Ravens.

?At some point, as a coach, you go through and you see what?s happening in the game and how a guy is reacting and how he?s responding to what?s happening in the game,? Crennel said, via Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.? ?If you feel he?s inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that?s when you move on from him and give someone else a chance.?

If you feel he?s inept.? The fact that the Chiefs could be getting Quinn ready to play means that the powers-that-be are at least thinking Cassel may be inept.

There?s also a chance Quinn would be used to merely snap Cassel out of his funk.? ?You pull him out, put somebody else in, let him settle down and maybe he goes back in,? Crennel said.? ?As a coach, you get a feeling about whether he?s making good decisions, poor decisions . . . those kind of things all kind of play into it.?

At No. 2 on the depth chart, Quinn has to at least be having flashbacks to 2011, when he was leapfrogged by the No. 3 man in Denver ? Tim Tebow ? after the Broncos opted to bench Kyle Orton.? But Ricky Stanzi?s star has faded in Kansas City; he went from competing with Quinn in the offseason to being a distant No. 3 in the regular season.

Besides, with no one buying ?Stand Up for Stanzi? billboard in Kansas City, Quinn won?t have to worry about the mob making personnel decisions.

Again.

For now, Cassel is the one who should be worrying.? And part of the plan surely is to see if the threat of being labeled ?inept? will get him to be more, um, ept.

Chai's the limit || Which Right Choice

Our tea bags test reveals the best-tasting brew is the cheapest

We?re a nation of tea drinkers ?the largest consumers of the beverage in the world. India consumes early 25% of the global tea production according to a report by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (December 2011).

And while we usually like to brew tea leaves, the convenience of a tea bag cannot be underestimated. We?re particular about our chai and these handy pouches let you carry around your favourite flavour wherever you go. But the quality of tea in tea bags is inferior to that of regular tea leaves, so it is important you choose the best to get an aromatic, flavoursome cup.

To make your task of picking the right brand easier, we got four expert tea tasters to blind-taste different black blended teas and rate them.

WHAT WE DID

Four tea experts tasted blended black teas (regular and English Breakfast) from eight brands of tea bags. The test was conducted at the Courtyard by Marriott, a hotel in Mumbai.

Experts tasted each tea made from blended (black) tea bags in a randomised order. The labels of the tea bags were concealed to hide identities. We dipped each tea bag in 150ml of water heated to 100?C for 45 seconds. The tea was served without milk or sugar. Water was used as a palate cleanser.

The experts rated each tea out of 10 on parameters such as appearance, aroma, flavour, body, taste and aftertaste. Ratings for each of these parameters were recorded, the individual ratings were averaged and the combined scores were converted into a percentage.

Our final scores indicate: 0-20 as very poor, 21-40 as poor, 41-60 as average, 61-80 as good, and 81-100 as excellent.

OUR EXPERTS

PRAHLAD KAKKAR

Ad man Prahlad Kakkar used to run Tea Centre, Mumbai, a restaurant that serves a variety of teas. He is a restaurateur, columnist and a scuba diver.

SNIGDHA MANCHANDA-BINJOLA

DR RUPALI AMBEGAONKAR

A former medical practitioner-turned-entrepreneur, she is the CEO of Tea Culture of the World, which imports tea variants from all over the world. An avid tea drinker, she has travelled the world to taste some of the finest and rarest varieties of tea.

SHERMAN ALMEIDA

Sherman Almeida loves tea and is the Food and Beverage Manager at Courtyard by Marriott in Mumbai. With over seven years of experience in the hospitality industry, Sherman also has experience in restaurants and bar operations.

HOW THEY FARED

66% TETLEY

Rs. 35 (25 tea bags)

Tetley scored the highest in our survey. The experts rated it well on appearance, flavour and taste. It was found to have good body and a very subtle aroma. It was the cheapest brand of tea bag we tested, along with Lipton Yellow Label and Girnar Bombay Chai.

65% TYPHOO ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Rs. 130 (25 tea bags)

While the experts gave it an average score on its aftertaste, Typhoo scored high for its clear, bright red appearance and taste. Each tea bag is individually packed in sachets, so it?s easy to carry around just a few if you need to. And they stay fresh longer.

64% TEEKANNE ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Rs. 165 (20 tea bags)

Our tasters generally found Teekanne a soothing and tasty tea, although one of the experts did say it was ?very bland?. Another felt that the tea dust used wasn?t of the best quality. Three of the four experts rated the tea highly on its appearance.

62% TWININGS ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Rs. 150 (25 tea bags)

Ratings on the taste of this tea were mixed. Two of our experts gave it above-average ratings, while the others strongly suggested that the flavour and aftertaste needed improvement. One of the experts who did not like it said, ?It?s a weak tea.?

61% LIPTON YELLOW LABEL

Rs. 35 (25 tea bags)

It scored well on its clear, deep red appearance and one taster noted that the aftertaste of the tea was ?better than expected?. While the tea was praised by two experts for its good, full body and taste, the other two thought it was quite unexceptional.

58% GIRNAR BOMBAY CHAI

Rs. 35 (25 tea bags)

The tea scored well on flavour and average on all the other parameters. Experts had mixed opinions about the appearance of the tea; while one said it was weak and yellowish, another expert praised it for its deep amber colour.

57% TAJ MAHAL ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Rs. 80 (25 tea bags)

Though this tea scored well on appearance, which experts said was robust, light and clear, the bitter, off-putting aftertaste was a disappointment. One of the experts was so displeased with the tea and its aroma that she scored it zero.

53% BROOKE BOND TAJ MAHAL

Rs. 40 (25 tea bags)

Brooke Bond scored low on body and aftertaste. ?Bitter? and ?hardly any? were some opinions on the aftertaste. One of the experts gave it a zero on flavour, claiming that it was non-existent and the body was quite watery, and not up to the mark.

RIGHT CHOICE KETTLES

If you are in a rush, a kettle can be quite handy to boil water quickly for your tea. We bring you the Right Choice kettles to choose from

76% KENWOOD SJM280

Rs. 3,095

Type Jug, Capacity 1,700ml,

Weight 0.82kg

This electric kettle is suitable for both right-handed and left-handed users. It has two water gauges, one on each side of the kettle. The markings of the water gauges are easy to read and the water level is clearly visible. Our testers found the Kenwood SJM 280 easy to use.

FASTEST KETTLE ON TEST

It was the fastest kettle on test, taking two seconds less than two-and-a-half minutes to boil a litre of water. The kettle should fit easily under standard kitchen taps. Filling it with water through the lid was easy. Water pours only from the spout unless the kettle is tipped too far, and this minimises the risk of spills or burns.

NOT VERY EASY TO CLEAN

However, our tests found that this kettle was not very easy to clean. Because of its polished stainless steel surface, it is easily stained, and water splashes leave smears on drying.

67% Philips HD4680/55

Rs. 1,995

Type Jug, Capacity 989ml

Weight 0.78kg

This Philips model needed less energy (0.03kWh) to boil the recommended minimum volume of water than any other model on test and it took only two-and-a-half minutes to boil about a litre of water. It?s easy to keep an eye on the water level, as the rear section is transparent.

EASY TO CLEAN

Its plastic body doesn?t stain significantly or collect dust, and the seams and joints are easy

to clean with a dry cloth. The limescale filter is very effective and consists of a fine polymer mesh in plastic housing. It has a firmly attached handle, switch and lid.

QUITE QUIET

The handle is well insulated from the kettle body and does not become hot enough to pose a risk when handled. This is not a noisy kettle and hisses gently all the way through the heating cycle, right up to the boil.

66% BAJAJ ELECTRICALS 1.7L

Rs. 1,749

Type Cordless jug,

Capacity 1,695ml, Weight 0.60kg

This cordless kettle is one of the lightest on test. It has an auto shut-off feature, an external water level indicator on both sides and an illuminated, transparent switch.

NOT VERY ENERGY-EFFICIENT

This kettle takes a second less than two-and-a-half minutes to boil a litre of water. It?s not the most energy-efficient model ? in our tests, it took the auto shut-off feature nine seconds to kick in after the water came to a boil. The limescale filter is effective and easy to clean.

EASY TO FILL

There are water gauges on both sides of the body, and the kettle is easy to fill. The appliance makes a dull hissing sound all the way through the heating cycle. The temperature of the plastic lid can get just a little high. However, the handle is well insulated from the kettle body and does not heat up too much.

PAPER USED IN TEA BAGS MAY CONTAIN HARMFUL CHEMICAL

Tea bag pouches are usually made of paper. Some of them contain the chemical epichlorohydrin, used in manufacturing plastic and as an insecticide.

Dr Jyothi Prasad, nutritionist and dietician from Bangalore, says, ?Epichlorohydrin is harmful, and when in contact with water while steeping tea, it becomes more harmful because it produces cancer-causing 3-MCPD. Studies have shown that it induces tumours, but most companies say that it is used within safe limits. There have been no studies on human subjects to suggest strong evidence that the chemical induces tumours. It has caused tumours in animal studies.?

WHICH ONES HAVE EPICHLOROHYDRIN?

To find out how widely epichlorohydrin was used, we contacted the manufacturers of the brands we included in our taste test.

Typhoo marketing head (India) Sushant Samal said their tea bags do not contain epichlorohydrin.

Tekkanne said: ?Our supplier for the filter paper material confirms (to) us that the supplied material does not contain any epichlorohydrin.?

HUL, manufacturers of Lipton Yellow Label, Taj Mahal English Breakfast and Brooke Bond Taj Mahal, tacitly acknowledged its presence in the products, but explained, ?Epichlorohydrin is widely and safely used in the manufacturing process to produce many types of papers, including tea bags? All our tea bag filter materials present no hazard to human health. The teabag papers used by Unilever fulfill all requirements of worldwide legislation for papers which are in direct contact with food.?

Tetley said:??The additive used in our tea bags is epichlorhydrin resin and not epichlorhydrin. This is hot-water insoluble and remains with the filter paper after brewing. It does not form part of the brew.?

Girnar and Twinings did not respond when asked if their tea bags contained epichlorhydrin.

BREWING TEA WITH A TEA BAG

    1. Water should be boiled at 100?C.
    1. One tea bag is ideal for 150-200ml of water.
    1. The bag can remain in the water depending on how strong or mild you like your tea. The recommended time is two minutes for mild, three minutes for regular and five for strong tea, with milk.
    1. If you like your tea with milk, the ideal ratio is 2:1 that is two parts water and one part milk.

KEEP AWAY FROM STRONG ODOURS

    1. Store tea bags in opaque containers made of steel or tin.
    1. These containers should be airtight.
    1. Keep them away from sunlight.
    1. Don?t place them near any strong odours. Tea tends to absorb odours very easily.
    1. Even if you buy expensive tea bags, you don?t need to store tea in the refrigerator. You can store it at room temperature.
    1. Read the expiry date. Try and consume tea within 12 months of purchase.
    1. Though there are no side effects of drinking tea after the expiry period, the tea won?t be flavourful and will be weak in taste.

TEA BAGS versus LOOSE-LEAF TEA

Loose-leaf tea is generally recommended by tea experts over tea made with tea bags because it is more flavourful. Teabags are made of tea fannings, commonly known as dust, which may give a quicker brew, but lack the subtlety and full flavour of the larger loose-leaf teas.

NEEDS ROOM TO INFUSE

When you brew loose-leaf teas, there is a lot of room for the leaves to absorb water and expand as they infuse. This allows the water to flow through the leaves and extract a wide range of flavours and aromas from them.

Tea leaves need space to swell, expand and unfurl. Good water circulation around the leaves is important, which doesn?t typically happen in a cramped little tea bag.

TEA LEAVES ARE MORE FLAVOURFUL

Tea leaves contain many chemicals and essential oils, which are the basis for the delightful flavour of tea that is brewed. When the tea leaves are broken up as with the fannings (dust) in teabags, those oils can evaporate, making the tea dull and less flavourful.

Who is vying to replace NYC's Bloomberg in 2013?

NEW YORK (AP) ? New York City's 2013 mayoral race doesn't fully kick off until after voters are done picking a president. But some of the city's top political players are already jockeying for position, preparing to introduce themselves to voters who haven't paid much attention to who, exactly, will succeed Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire mayor who has defined City Hall for more than a decade.

Bloomberg's successor will face significant challenges ? among them a projected budget hole of at least $3.1 billion. And when the victor is sworn in on Jan. 1, 2014, it will be the first time since Bloomberg took office 12 years ago that the mayor likely won't have the financial and philanthropic resources to fund favorite initiatives out of his or her own pocket.

It's too early to make any assumptions about the race, political analysts warn. At this point in the 2001 contest, no one considered Bloomberg a likely prospect. But decision time is approaching ? and there's a chance that it could be sooner than in previous election cycles. With no obvious Republican standard-bearers, it's possible that the most significant contest will be the Democratic primary, and there's been speculation the state Legislature could schedule it as early as June.

If no one unexpected jumps in, this could be an old-school race among political veterans who paid their dues the traditional way ? working their way up the hardscrabble ladder of New York City politics.

"These are the kind of people who used to be elected mayor," said Maurice Carroll, the director of Quinnipiac University's polling institute. "Bloomberg is a total exotic plant in the garden of city mayors."

Here's a look at the expected contenders ? and a few wild cards who could jump into the fray:

CHRISTINE QUINN:

She hasn't formally declared her intention to run, but the City Council speaker is already regarded as the front-runner in the race, due to her performance in voter polls and in the money contest that accompanies any campaign.

An August poll by Quinnipiac University found 29 percent of registered Democrats said they'd vote for her in the 2013 primary ? 19 points more than her closest competitor. At this point it's unclear who Republicans might field as a candidate.

The historic possibilities of a Quinn candidacy have also garnered national attention. She would be the first woman and the first openly gay person to take the city's helm. Her wedding this year to her longtime partner helped expose voters to Quinn's personal side when she fretted to reporters that she still hadn't finished writing her vows and spoke emotionally about the impact of New York's legalization of gay marriage.

Critics say her early success is an illusion, due more to her prominence as the No. 2 person in city government than to lasting appeal. Her position does come with significant power. It gives her near-total control over what legislation comes to a vote in the City Council, and she has said she will never bring a bill to vote without knowing it has the support to become law.

Quinn, 46, is widely perceived to have the backing of Bloomberg and with him, many of the city's business leaders, but she's been walking a tricky line. Political analysts say she must distance herself from the mayor, whose popularity has declined, while holding on to his support.

WILLIAM THOMPSON JR.:

The city's former comptroller is best known for his close loss to Bloomberg in 2009, which was surprising because Thompson was outspent by more than 10-to-1. He channeled voter anger toward Bloomberg's extension of term limits and lost by only 4.5 percentage points.

Thompson, 59, got a late start on fundraising this time compared with some of his would-be opponents, but political analysts give him good odds going into 2013, in no small part because he is likely to be the only major African-American candidate in a city where political allegiances often divide along racial lines. His campaign says Thompson's extensive experience in finance and business will also work in his favor.

Critics argue Thompson did so well in 2009 more because of voter dissatisfaction with Bloomberg than because of any compelling vision he presented of himself as a leader.

Eduardo Castell, an adviser to Thompson's campaign, calls that laughable. Thompson, he says, has the extensive experience in finance and business necessary to guide the city. Castell argues he will be a strong candidate on issues of importance such as crime and the increasing affordability gap faced by many city residents.

BILL DE BLASIO:

At 6-foot-5, the city public advocate has been an easy-to-spot presence in city and regional politics for the past 20 years.

He worked as an aide to Mayor David Dinkins in the early '90s, then served as a federal regional housing director for President Bill Clinton and finally as a councilman for eight years. His work as campaign manager for Hillary Rodham Clinton's successful 2000 Senate campaign helped win him a reputation as a consummate political insider.

As public advocate, one of the few citywide elected positions in New York, the 51-year-old de Blasio has frequently and vocally criticized the mayor on issues ranging from stop and frisk to taxi accessibility. He is viewed as popular with the city's powerful labor groups and progressive political organizations.

His family, like those of other probable candidates, has been edging more into the public eye as the election approaches. His wife has been tweeting about politics, her husband and their children since last year. Some speculate that her race ? she is black and de Blasio is white ? could help spark support for him among minority voters.

SCOTT STRINGER:

On the list of likely mayoral candidates, Manhattan's borough president has a "maybe" next to his name. Some have suggested he will instead run for city comptroller, a job that would give him more power and citywide exposure.

Stringer, 52, grew up surrounded by politics. His mother was a city councilwoman and his father was a mayoral adviser. As a preteen he handed out campaign leaflets for U.S. Rep. Bella Abzug, a cousin.

His present-day family, too, has been making its personal life public. His wife tweets frequently about their infant son, and Stringer's been known to proudly show off photos of the baby wearing a top that proclaims "Vote for my dad."

Stringer has been borough president since 2006, and his campaign touts his record helping to guide the expansion of three universities and reforming the borough's Community Boards. He was also a state assemblyman for 13 years.

Though he has criticized Bloomberg on issues including proposed budget cuts to low-income child care, he recently earned praise from the mayor for supporting the city's ban on large sugary drinks in eateries.

JOHN LIU:

Liu, the city comptroller and former City Council member, was once viewed as one of the top likely contenders for the mayoral seat, with strong support from organized labor and minority communities. But his prospects appeared to plummet following the arrests of his campaign treasurer and a fundraiser amid accusations that his campaign made use of straw donors who funneled illegal contributions from wealthy people into his coffers.

Liu, the first Asian-American to win major elective office in New York City, has continued to raise campaign funds, but he is using some of that money for his legal defense, and political analysts have expressed doubt that he could push forward with a mayoral campaign under the shadow of a federal inquiry.

But Liu, 45, has defended his fundraising practices and has continued to talk like someone running for mayor. And he himself has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing.

The native of Taiwan, who immigrated to New York at the age of 5, retains strong support among the city's Asian-American community, which has seen its numbers and political influence rise in recent years.

THE WILD CARDS:

? RAYMOND KELLY: The city's longtime police commissioner insists he has no interest in political office, but some have speculated his high approval ratings and promising poll numbers could push him to jump in.

? JOHN CATSIMATIDIS: The Gristedes Supermarkets mogul and billionaire could finance his own campaign as a Republican. He explored doing just that in 2009.

? ALEC BALDWIN: The politically outspoken actor flirted publicly with the possibility of a mayoral run, but his spokesman says he has no such plans for 2013 and is still filming the final season of "30 Rock." He's also been in city tabloid headlines for all the wrong reasons ? tussling with paparazzi and getting kicked off a plane for refusing to turn off his phone.

? ADOLFO CARRION JR.: The former Bronx borough president moved on to become director of the Obama administration's White House Office of Urban Affairs. Some speculate that after leaving Washington, he could be a late addition to the race.

?Assessing fitness-to-practice of overseas-trained health practitioners by Australian registration & accreditation bodies (BMC Medical Education)? Tweet

Background: Assessment of fitness-to-practice of health professionals trained overseas and who wish to practice in Australia is undertaken by a range of organisations. These organisations conduct assessments using a range of methods. However there is very little published about how these organisations conduct their assessments. The purpose of the current paper is to investigate the methods of assessment used by these organisations and the issues associated with conducting these assessments. Methods: A series of semi-structured interviews was undertaken with a variety of organisations who undertake assessments of overseas-trained health professionals who wish to practice in Australia. Content analysis of the interviews was used to identify themes and patterns. Results: Four themes were generated from the content analysis of the interviews: (1) assessing; (2) process; (3) examiners; and (4) cost-efficiency. The themes were interconnected and each theme also had a number of sub-themes. Conclusions: The organisations who participated in the present study used a range of assessment methods to assess overseas trained health professionals. These organisations also highlighted a number of issues, particularly related to examiners and process issues, pre- and post-assessment. Organisations demonstrated an appreciation for ongoing review of their assessment processes and incorporating evidence from the literature to inform their processes and assessment development.
