There are those in the general aviation community who think electric planes are the future for private aircraft, but regulatory hurdles are in place preventing them from proliferating in our skies. You see, current FAA requirements for light sport aircraft (LSA) -- planes that can be flown by anyone with a pilot's license -- preclude electric powerplants, and that makes such planes unavailable to most private pilots. Well, today at the CAFE Electric Aircraft Symposium, FAA analyst Tom Gunnarson delivered some good news for flying EV advocates, stating that the FAA has completed its regulatory study on electric aircraft, and the rulemaking process will begin soon. Once those rules have been written, electrically-propelled aircraft will be available for use as LSA by the public, which isn't possible today given their current status as experimental craft. The bad news? Governmental wheels spin slowly, and Gunnarson said that incorporating those new rules into the current regulatory framework will take five years if we're lucky, but ten years is a more likely time frame for the FAA to finish. In the meantime, you'll have to settle for air shows or terrestrial transport to get your EV fix.
FAA writing rules for electric aircraft, to allow public to fly them in the next decade originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Apr 2012 19:33:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Departed artists like Whitney Houston, Queen's Freddie Mercury and John Lennon also get mentions from fans in Times Square.

<P><b>NEW YORK</b> — After the Tupac hologram performance at Coachella made such a huge splash, the team behind the projection system floated the possibility this week of an Elvis hologram to perform with Justin Bieber. Even '90s girl group TLC is rumored to be considering a virtual version of the late Left Eye on their upcoming tour. </P><P> </P><P>With all that talk, MTV News hit Times Square to ask fans which departed artists they would most like to see perform in hologram form. While some of those interviewed wanted to see other rappers like the Notorious B.I.G. or Nate Dogg, one fan thought Whitney Houston should get the honors. </P><P> </P><P> </P><P> </P><P>"I love her, I grew up singing her [songs], just walking around the house when I was seven or eight," Shayana of Houston said. </P><P> </P><P>Brits Amy Winehouse and John Lennon of the Beatles were also popular picks, and a few rock fans mentioned Queen's flamboyant frontman. "It would have to be Freddie Mercury because Queen were one of the all-time greatest bands and he was a showman," said a fan named Rob. </P><P> </P><P>Blane Mader would like to see a hologram of another great showman, Michael Jackson. </P><P> </P><P>"It's a really cliché answer, but in my time I've never seen him and it would just be something awesome to watch," Mader said of the King of Pop. </P><P> </P><P>Members of the Jackson 5 recently announced that they would love to have a virtual Michael on their upcoming Unity Tour. "Wouldn't that be wonderful? As a matter of fact, we had that idea two years ago for Michael's Cirque du Soleil show," Michael's brother Jackie Jackson told E! Following a performance night that saw the remaining American Idol contestants cover both Queen and a song of their choice, six finalists awaited their fate this evening.
And after both Stefano Langone and Katy Perry took the stage, we were left with Elise Testone, Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine in the bottom three. There's no way viewers were voting out Laine, right? Right?!?
Right.
Instead, Elise Testone heard her name called by Ryan Seacrest to conclude the episode. The soulful crooner bid farewell via "Whole Lotta Love," as J. Lo got up and danced and the crowd offered one final ovation.
What do you think? Did America get it right? Should Elise have been eliminated?

'He had nothing positive to say about our daughter and his depiction of her is false,' Carmen Bryan tweets after hearing Nas' new single.

While fans are raving over Nas' new single, "Daughters," not everyone is happy about the Don's ode to fatherhood. Especially Carmen Bryan, the mother of Nas' daughter, Destiny, whom the MC raps about extensively on the No I.D.-produced track.
"Just heard 'Daughters' by Nas. What a disappointment! He had nothing positive to say about our daughter and his depiction of her is false," Carmen Bryan wrote on Twitter Thursday after the song was released online.
Bryan's Twitter isn't verified, but MTV News was able to confirm through a source that the account in question does belong to Nas' ex. Now, this isn't the first time the MC has referenced his child on record; he first rapped about her on "The World is Yours," a single off of his 1994 debut album Illmatic. On his 2004 double LP Street's Disciple, Nas lovingly sang of "daddy's little girl" on "Me & You (Dedicated to Destiny)," but "Daughters" has a distinctly different tone.
"I saw my daughter send a letter to some boy her age/ Who's locked up, first I regretted it, then caught my rage," God's Son rapped on the track's first verse.
On the second verse, the Queensbridge MC addressed the February incident when the 17-year old Destiny showed off her condom collection on Twitter. "At this point I realized I ain't the strictest parent," Nas rapped, blaming himself for not spending enough time with her.
Bryan is no stranger to scandal. In 2007, she penned "It's No Secret," a tell-all book that detailed how her and Nas' relationship deteriorated and her affair with Jay-Z.
A label rep at Def jam, Nas' label wouldn't comment on the matter, but Nas did send out a special tweet to his little girl on Thursday. "I Love My Princess Destiny Jones," he wrote.
